Position

Energy powers our economy and our lives -- without it, we are quite literally in the dark. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its new Institute for 21st Century Energy are dedicated to addressing America's challenge of finding efficient and affordable solutions.

We believe that an affordable, diverse, and secure energy supply is fundamental to our security and to the expansion of economic opportunity and prosperity for all Americans. We are equally convinced that this energy can be secured while making progress in the fight for environmental quality and the management of climate change. Here are some of our priorities:

Climate Change: The U.S. Chamber champions efforts to develop technologies to better use energy resources and to export those technologies to the developing world where the bulk of new greenhouse emissions originate. Add your voice as we urge Congress to carefully review the climate change issue before taking further action.

Energy's Link to Competitiveness and Security: One of the most compelling realities about energy is its link to jobs, competitiveness, and security. Exploding demand abroad and development restrictions at home have put America at risk. Join us in promoting policies that will secure our energy supply, and thus our economic competitiveness.

Energy Diversity is Achievable: To secure America's future, all energy options must be put on the table and given a chance to prove their viability in the marketplace. If you agree that the pros, cons, costs, and unintended impacts of each option should be considered based on facts and not on rhetoric, make sure your voice is heard.

Emerging Energy Technologies: Help us advocate for the full implementation of provisions contained in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that further the development and deployment of innovative energy technologies. While the majority of policy directives are progressing, some are behind schedule or remain uncompleted and Congress needs to know where we stand.
